The first-ever Punkleton came to be in a very unusual manner, at least according to one spooky story told around campfires during crisp autumn nights. A sizeable pumpkin patch bathed in pure moonlight was suddenly struck by a bolt of lightning. The intense light and heat burned holes in many of the pumpkins, drawing the attention of some passing Thumpies. When the curious Monsters investigated, they noticed that the scorched pumpkins bore a striking resemblance to scary faces. Imagine the Thumpies' surprise when one of the gourds sprouted skeletal arms and legs, sprang to its feet and spooked them out of their wits! 'Possessed' of a mischievous spirit, this new Monster was dubbed Punkleton and officially welcomed to the Continent.

The full-grown (some might say ripe) Punkleton is a master of fright, and when it comes to scaring its fellow Monsters, it excels without ever even trying. Having grown weary of the same spooky antics back on the Continent, the Seasonal set its sights on becoming a full-fledged wanderer and exploring the wider world. But how? Using its own vegetal instincts and the bony version of a green thumb, the Punkleton began cultivating a special varietal of pumpkins that it dubbed 'Smunkins.' These had the special ability to set down roots, pull open fissures in the ground, and open impossible pathways to different locations across the world! Just as it was prepared to make its inaugural journey, the Teleportational pathway to Wanderer Island using Essences was discovered! Certainly a more convenient travel option... but was there more to discover using the 'Smunkin Road?' An adventure for another day, perhaps!
